Laguna Beach County Water District's
SmartScape Info/Expo

The District is hosting its first annual SmartScape Info/Expo on Saturday, September 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its headquarters office located at 306 Third Street, downtown Laguna Beach.

The free event highlights and promotes the benefits of using California native plants and efficient irrigation techniques in residential and commercial landscape settings. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with knowledgeable landscape and irrigation professionals, attend hands-on demonstrations and free workshops, and meet representatives from local companies exhibiting the latest water efficient landscape products.

California native plants and the latest efficient irrigation products will be spotlighted in exhibits provided by local nurseries and irrigation manufacturers. In addition, the California Native Plant Society will have a selection of native plants available for sale. Attendees can also sit in on one or more of the free workshops that will be offered throughout the day. Workshops include:
  • 8:30 a.m.      Landscape Design - Hydro-Zones and micro-climates
  • 9:15              Irrigation system components and construction
  • 10:00            Gardening nature's way on a low water budget
  • 10:45            20 best native plants for your authentic Laguna Garden
  • 11:30            Wildlife habitat gardens
  • Noon             Water efficient landscapes and how to get there
  • 12:30 p.m.     Keeping water on your property - NPDES regulations
  • 1:00               Irrigation controller scheduling and maintenance
  • 1:45               Native landscaping made easy
  • 2:30               Container Gardening
  • 3:00               3:00 Sprinkler head retrofits and conversion to drip irrigation  
In an effort to promote water conserving landscape design ideas, local landscape designers are offering free 20-minute consultations to attendees in converting their high water use landscape into a water efficient landscape. Pre-registration is required for the consultations, which can be reserved by calling949-464-3114. Space is limited.

Event participants include: The Home Depot, Ewing Irrigation Products, Hunter Industries, Rain Bird, Toro Irrigation Products, Back Nine Greens, Tree of Life Nursery, California Native Plant Society, California Landscape Contractors Association, Laguna Koi Ponds, Transition Laguna, Laguna Fire Safe Council. the City of Laguna Beach, Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee, and Friends of Hortense Miller Garden.



Laguna's Farmer's Market

Once a month, District personnel are available at Laguna's Farmer's Market to answer questions and provide you with FREE conservation products such as hose nozzles, soil moisture probes, leak detectors, shower timers, and packets of California Wildflower seeds. Contact District staff at 949-464-3107 to find out when we will be there next.

The Farmer's Market is located in the public parking lot next to City Hall. We look forward to seeing you there.
